Backup/Restore
The best way to protect your iWeb sites from accidental loss is to copy them to a new location—to "backup" your files. Then, if a file gets damaged, you can "restore" the file using the backup version.
When you launch iWeb for the first time, a package is created named "domain.sites(2)". That package contains all your site data: the domain file's default location is '~/Library/Application Support/iWeb' (the tilde (~) represents your home directory), but, beginning with iWeb 1.1, you can select a different default location for your domain file.
iWeb Valet compress and saves last versions of your sites (stored in your iWeb domains folder) every time it performs a backup, so you can always find an older version of a domain if you need it, and you can use iWeb Valet to restore it in your original iWeb domains folder.
Managing Multiple sites. iWeb miss one important feature: the ability to load and save multiple – independent - web sites. If you use some external program to manage multiple domain files, and those files are stored in your iWeb domains folder, iWeb Valet let you backup and recover each file, as it save the content of the entire folder, not only the default domain file. Be very careful: some programs act renaming the default domain file, therefore the “domain.sites(2)” file saved with an old backup might contain a different site than in your actual “domain.sites(2)” file!
Locating the default folders
1. Select your iWeb domain folder's default location
2. Choose a destination for your backup
Determine the maximum number of backups to retain
Backups are arranged by date, so that the oldest backup is deleted when a new backup is made. You can specify the maximum number of different backup versions retained. If the maximum number of backups permitted is five, and you perform a backup that creates a sixth version, the oldest version is deleted from the destination storage.
